Campaigning with Theo Butt Philip

Badgers Must Be Culled

12.37.43am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 7th Jul 2008

Following reports that the Government has reject former chief scientific advisor Sir David King's advice on culling badgers, Theo Butt Philip, Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for Bridgwater and West Somerset has called on the Government to think again.

Theo Butt Philip said:

"Life has become harder and harder for farmers, the Government should be doing everything it can to help them.

"Bovine TB is a big problem, leading to thousands of cattle being slaughtered.

"Action needs to be taken to protect our farmers livelihoods and help them combat Bovine TB.

"A badger cull in TB hotspots is necessary part of any strategy to combat Bovine TB.

"Further more, until Bovine TB can be eradicated, the Government should pay farmers a fair level of compensation for compulsorily slaughtered cattle."
