Bridgwater and West Somerset has not gained from Brown's first year as Prime Minister claim's Theo Butt Philip in a message to residents.

Labour unanimously made Gordon Brown Prime Minister one year ago today (27th June 2008). But Theo Butt Philip, Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for Bridgwater and West Somerset argues that this area has not seen a benefit from his year as Prime Minister.

Theo Butt Philip said:

" We've has 12 months of Gordon Brown's Government and I have yet to see a benefit for the people of Bridgwater and West Somerset.

"Brown came to power with the promise of a new style of government and clear leadership, so far we have seen little of either.

"Brown's 10p tax grab has left some of the poorest people here in Bridgwater worse off, even though he's borrowed £2.7bn. The poorest members of society need more help to deal with the rising cost of living, not a tax increase.

"In much of this constituency it's impossible for young people to get a home. Labour hasn't build sufficient affordable homes. The credit crunch means things are getting worse."

I'm angry that the Labour Government has let down the people of Bridgwater and West Somerset badly. 12 months of Gordon Brown as Prime Minister has given us nothing to celebrate."
