The constituency comprises the parts of Somerset, which make up the two District Council areas of West Somerset and much of Sedgemoor. Contained within the constituency are the Quantock Hills, parts of Exmoor and the Brendons (all of which are areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty) as well as the Bristol Channel coast and the Somerset Levels and moors. The constituency covers a wide area, being 50 miles by road from East to West and being 14 miles at its widest part from North to South. The largest towns are Bridgwater, with a population of around 40,000 and Minehead with around 10,000. The smaller towns are Dulverton, Williton and Watchet in West Somerset and North Petherton in Sedgemoor.
