Lord Cotter joined local Liberal Democrats in Nether Stowey yesterday (Saturday) to launch Theo Butt Philip's campaign to become the Liberal Democrat MP for Bridgwater and West Somerset.
Speaking to members and supporters in Nether Stowey Lord Cotter, Liberal Democrat spokesman on small business, warned of the dangers of a Conservative Government and told members that it was the Liberal Democrats who provided the best chance to keep the Tories out here.
Theo Butt Philip, who could be the new MP in just a few weeks, said:
"We've had 13 years of Labour and 18 years of the Tories, but nothing really seems to change. People a sick and tired of this Government, but they're not in love with David Cameron, we have a real opportunity for a real change at this election.
"The Labour Party, founded as the party of social justice has failed. Britain is less equal then when they took over. The poor pay a higher proportion of their income in tax than the rich do. Children from poorer areas of Bridgwater have a less than 20% chance of getting five good GCSEs whilst in other areas it's three times that.
"I'm campaigning to give a real progressive voice to the people of Bridgwater and West Somerset who deserve far better than they have now."
