Theo Butt Philip, Liberal Democrat prospective candidate for Bridgwater and West Somerset has condemned Government proposals for a new generation of nuclear reactors - including one at Hinkley Point.
Commenting on the Government's announcement on Monday Theo Butt Philip said:
"In the past nuclear power plants have always cost the taxpayer a massive amount. It is obvious that they are still not financially viable without state support as the Government has drawn up plans to tax electricity consumers to subsidise new nuclear.
"Because of Britain's geography we are well placed to rapidly develop renewable power such as on and off shore wind and tidal power - we should be investing in these clean, safe and effective technologies which would create a huge number of jobs."
