Following Ian Liddell-Grainger's debate on energy production in Westminster Hall yesterday, Theo Butt Philip said:
"I was disappointed when I read the text of Mr Liddell-Grainger's speech in Westminster Hall today.
"There are many energy production issues facing the Bridgwater and West Somerset and the United Kingdom as a whole.
"Having secured a debate, supposedly on energy production, Mr Liddell-Grainger chose to focus on the narrow issue of nuclear power.
"Nuclear power is hugely expensive. Reactors cost millions to build and it then costs millions to clean up their waste.
"By the time the new generation of nuclear plants come on line, we could have invested the money in energy efficiency and renewable energy projects so we wouldn't even need them.

"It is how we develop the United Kingdom's renewable energy capacity that we should be talking about."
